The government of Australia announced on Monday morning i.e. June 19, 2017, that from July 1, 2017, Indian nationals can apply for a visitor visa online. Australia Immigration and Border Protection Minister Alex Hawke stated that “online application would make country’s visitor visas easier and enhance the experience for Indians”. As Australia is considered to be one of the best tourist destinations and attracts a large number of tourists in the nation, there has been a significant increase in demand for Australian visas in India.

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection permitted more than 65,000 visitor visas to the Indian citizen in the first four months of 2017. The Hawke even stated that “online application process of a visitor visa is an important step taken by Australian government which will give benefit to Indian applicants seeking to tour the nation, business visitors, or those who are looking forward to reconnecting with their families”.

The visa will offer benefits like 24/7 accessibility, ability to check online status of applications and the online payment of visa applications; all through the Immi Account portal of the department which will help applicants to finalise their arrangements as soon as possible.
