If the latest reports are anything to go by, it seems that Rajnikanth’s sci-fi 2.0 might clash with Hrithik Roshan’s Super 30 as both of them are now slated to release on Republic Day 2019. South filmmaker Shankar’s 2.0, starring Rajnikanth & Akshay Kumar has stayed in the news ever since the movie went on the floors in 2015 and the release date has been postponed several times. Originally, it was supposed to release on Diwali 2017 but in April 2017, one of the producers announced that the movie has been postponed to January 25 as they weren’t entirely happy with the VFX used. Later, the date was pushed to April 14, and then April 27, 2018 and now they are looking to release the film on the Republic Day weekend next year. According to the reports, the makers of 2.0 didn’t want to mess with Aamir Khan’s Thugs Of Hindostan this Diwali or Shah Rukh Khan’s Zero in Christmas. The makers of Super 30 also pushed the film by two months.

Hrithik and his team haven’t yet reacted to this sudden plan of clash but he would be surely shaken by the news. Back in 2016, he faced a similar clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees which unexpectedly released on the same day as Kaabil. According to the reports, the makers of Super 30 won’t change the release date as republic day weekends have proven to be extremely lucky for Hrithik Roshan. His movies Agnipath (2012) & Kaabil (2017) which released on the Republic Day weekend did incredibly well at the box office.

Super 30 is based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar and 2.0 is a spiritual successor to the 2010 Tamil film Enthiran in which Rajnikanth will return as Chitti & Dr Vaseegaran. Akshay Kumar will also be seen in a completely new avatar in the movie which also seems to be his most challenging role. Here is Akshay’s look in the movie:

We don’t think that the clash between 2.0 & super 30 would harm much as both the movies are targeted to a different set of audience and have different genres. For now, let’s wait for an official announcement on the release date.
