In March this year, Irrfan Khan announced he has been diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumour and that he was going out of the country for treatment. This shocking revelation sparked major concerns for his health. The actor first tweeted on 5 March saying that he was suffering from a “rare disease”, later revealing it to be cancer.

 

Recently, he penned a heartfelt note to a leading daily on his battle with cancer. In the note,  Irrfan opened up about battling the “rare” disease. He talked at length about one of the “terrifying” hospital visits, his ordeal with the illness and how everything changed in an instant. Celebrities like Paresh Rawal, Ayushmann Khurrana and Swara Bhaskar among many others have come together to support him after this emotional note.

Irrfan has acted in more than 100 films, including Bollywood hits Piku, Paan Singh Tomar, Maqbool, & Haasil. In 2013, he won India’s National Film Award for his leading role in Paan Singh Tomar, a biopic about an athlete who became a bandit. He won the Viewers’ Choice Award at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival for The Lunchbox, in which he portrayed a lonely accountant who mistakenly receives a lunchbox intended for a colleague.
