Afghanistan’s historic first Test has evoked considerable interest. A surface with a dash of green awaits Asghar Stanikzai and his men at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Indian team being lead by Ajinkya Rahane in the absence of Virat Kohli, Rahane does possess attacking instincts as captain; he led India with imagination in the decider against Australia at Dharamshala last year. Going into the Test match, India will also look at the bigger picture with the series against England around the corner.
Afghanistan’s strength is its spin department which has been relying on Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Given India’s recent record against spin in test matches, it will be a test for the experienced batting line-up which India has; India is likely to play all three openers, M. Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan and K.L. Rahul in the XI. Cheteshwar Pujara, skipper Ajinkya Rahane, and wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik returning make up the middle-order. Indian team might play with 3 pace bowlers, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya and two spinners — the experienced R. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja — in the eleven.
Batting is Afghanistan’s only weak quarter. The aggressive and experienced Ahmed Shehzad will be the holding pillar of Afghanistan’s weak batting lineup .but they will rely on their spinners to do some miracle.
