Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address four rallies in Gujarat including Dharampur, Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Jamnagar district. The polling in all these places is scheduled in the first phase on 9 December. The second phase of polling for the 182 seats Gujarat assembly will be held on 14 December. The counting of votes will take place on 18th of December 2017.
The star campaigners of all political parties are holding back to back public meetings in a bid to win the voters. Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi tomorrow will hold a series of rallies for three days. According to the statement of Chief Election Commissioner of India AK Joti, VVPAT machines will be used along with EVMs in all the 50,264 voting booths of 182 constituencies in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this Sunday addressed three meetings targeting 14 seats in Bharuch, Surendranagar and Rajkot districts. In his public rally in Gujarat’s Surendranagar, he said that the party had a history of rigging organizational polls.
“A youth named Shehzad Poonawalla called the process to elect the Congress president as rigged… he said democratic values in this election have been torn apart in public view,” the PM said in Surendranagar. “The Congress issued a fatwa that Poonawalla should be boycotted by all WhatsApp groups. Such a party that talks about tolerance, democracy… We have this saying that if democracy is not in the house how can they accept it in the country”.
Over 17 lakh new voters have been added to the Electoral Roll out of which more than 12.37 lakh are first-time voters in the age group of 18-19 years. Electors Photo Identity Cards, EPIC cards are being distributed to newly registered voters. There are 977 candidates in the first phase for 89 seats of Kutch, Saurashtra and South Gujarat. Gujarat has been under the BJP rule for the last 22 years.
