Sri Lanka appears to have neither the game-plan nor the resources to halt India’s seemingly inexorable march towards a record-equalling ninth consecutive series victory when the neighbours clash in the third and final test on Saturday.
Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli have guided Indian cricket team to 116/2 against Sri Lanka at lunch in the third Test. Cheteshwar Pujara and Shikhar Dhawan are out while Vijay scored his 16th half-century. India lost the wicket of Cheteshwar Pujara to a well laid out plan from Sri Lanka. Pujara was looking in fine touch but Sri Lanka brought in a leg-slip. Pujara whipped one off his thighs which went straight to that fielder. India had a decent start to the innings after winning the toss and electing to bat. Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay opened the innings and scored runs in quick fashion. India has made two changes to their side from Nagpur. Mohammed Shami comes back in for Umesh Yadav while Shikhar Dhawan is also back for KL Rahul. Sri Lanka has also made three changes to their side. Sandakan, Dhananjaya de Silva and Roshen Silva are included in place of Rangana Herath, Lahiru Thirimanne and Shanaka.
The guests follow the three-match series 1-0 after suffering a record innings and 239-run defeat in the previous match in Nagpur. The first Test in Kolkata ended in a draw. India has not lost a Test match at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi since 1987 (vs West Indies); winning 10 times and drawing just once there across the 11 games they’ve been involved in since that loss.
