All the three convicts in the Kopardi rape and murder case will be hanged till death. The accused were sentenced to be hanged till death by a fast track court here on Wednesday.Special judge Suvarna Keole pronounced the sentences in a packed court room, awarding death penalty to main accused Jitendra Shinde (25) for the offence under Section 302 (murder) read with 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code and death sentence to co-accused Santosh Bhaval (30) and Nitin Bhailume (28) for the offence under Section 120-B read with 302 and 109 (abetment) of the IPC. The death sentences are subject to confirmation by the Bombay high court, the judge said.
The all three were held guilty in the case of brutal rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl at Kopardi in Karjat taluka of the district, about 150km from Pune. The victim was found murdered after being raped on July 13, 2016 at Kopardi village in Ahmednagar district and according to the police the accused also inflicted injuries all over her body and broke her limbs before throttling her.
A large number of police officials were deployed outside the court as well as various parts of Ahmednagar city in view of the sensitivity of the case and to prevent any untoward fallout. It was around 9:30 when all the three accused were brought to the Ahmednagar district and sessions court amid an unprecedented security. In a matter of few minutes after the court started its proceedings for the day as special jude Keole communicated the sentences to the three convicts who showed no reaction and stood motionless with their heads down.
