Former Bollywood and Bengali actress Sumita Sanyal passed away at the age of 71 yesterday (Sunday). The gorgeous actress was best known for her role in Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan starrer superhit Anand.
The veteran actress was married to Subodh Roy, who was an esteemed film editor. She has acted in over 30 Bengali films and worked with top-notch actors like Dilip Kumar in Sagina Mahato (1971).
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who keeps cordial relations with film stars took it to Twitter to share the sad news. “Saddened at the passing of veteran actress Sumita Sanyal. My condolences to her family, friends and fans,” she tweeted.
Sumita was born on October 9, 1945 in Darjeeling as Manjula Sanyal. She was also a part of notable Hindi films like “Guddi”, “Aashirwad” and “Mere Apne” and debut movie was “Khokhababur Pratyabartan” which released in 1960.
Noted actor Prosenjit Chatterjee also expressed grief on social media. “Saddened to hear about the demise of the veteran actress Sumita Sanyal. May her soul rest in peace,” Chatterjee tweeted.
